5 Minute Hummus Recipe
Lucky for me and my appetite, both of my parents are foreign trained chefs. I guess you can say I know good food. Taste, freshness and quality of food goes a long way at my family's kitchen table.
Last week I got hungry and decided to stop at Starbucks for a "healthy snack" to pair with my Nitro cold brew. Their hummus protein box contained chicken breast, red pepper hummus and vegetables. The hummus surpassed my expectations, so I was eager to go home remake it!
Hummus is a healthier alternative than most spreads. The main ingredient, Garbanzo beans is high in fiber and protein. Most of all I love the zesty taste of hummus, it goes great with bland veggies.
Ingredients
2 cans of Garbanzo beans
1 chopped white onion
1/2 Red pepper
4-5 Garlic cloves
4- 5 tbsp of Lemon juice
1/4 cup of extra Virgin olive oil
2 tbsp of Salt
1 tbsp of Pepper
3 tbsp of Water
6 tbsp of Tahini*
Tahini is a Middle Eastern condiment made from toasted ground hulled sesame. It is a major ingredient in hummus and can be purchased at Walmart or most ethnic stores.
Preparation
1. The key to a smooth consistency in your hummus is to peal your garbanzo beans or at least half of them.
2. Ground your Garbanzo beans in a food processor.
3. Place the remaining ingredients along with your grounded garbanzo beans in a blender.
4. Enjoy!
